Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi On The Role Of The House Oversight Committee And Speaking Out Against Hate

Democratic Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi represents Illinois’ 8th Congressional District which covers parts of Chicago’s West and Northwest suburbs including Schaumburg and Arlington Heights. With spoke with Rep. Krishnamoorthi at NPR in Washington D.C.    


Yesterday, leaders from both parties agreed, in principle, on a deal to fund the government. Of the deal, Rep. Krishnamoorthi said, "It's always a good thing when there's a bicameral and bipartisan agreement... I'm hopeful that the President blesses it because we can't afford another shutdown."

Rep. Krishnamoorthi was also asked about recent hate crimes and how they've been addressed by our representatives. He said, "We're... seeing a rise in hate crimes against anyone who are characterized as an other...I think that we have to ban together against Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, Homophobia and hate of all kinds."
