People lined up for hours — and in some cases days — to be first in line when the State Board of Elections began accepting petitions for office at 8 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2022. Candidates in line when the doors open have a chance to be listed first on the ballot.

Monday, March 7, 2022, is the first day of filing for people who want to run in this year’s Democratic and Republican primaries in Illinois. Candidates lined up outside the State Board of Elections office in Springfield for hours before it opened. We visited the line to hear some of their stories.

Plus, we were joined by two veteran statehouse reporters to talk about the state of some of the races.
