Illinois legislators will only get a brief post-election respite from politics; a week from Wednesday they’ll be back in Springfield to begin the veto session.The current makeup of the General Assembly will remain in place for that, but come the new year -- when the Capitol welcomes a new set of lawmakers elected Tuesday night -- the balance of power will shift, slightly.

Proposals to raise local taxes were a mixed bag with voters in east-central Illinois. Voters approved school bond referendum in the Champaign and Paxton Buckley-Loda school districts, and said yes to sales tax hikes in Coles and Iroquois Counties. But a sales tax hike for Macon County and a property tax increase for the Maroa-Forsyth school district went down to defeat.

Trump says he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton, congratulating him on his victory. Trump says he's pledging to be a president "for all Americans.''

Election Day, November 8th is finally here, and the polls are open in Illinois from 6 A-M until 7 P-M. Even if you're not registered to vote, you can now do that on Election Day in Illinois --- although voters in smaller counties without electronic vote tallying will have to go to their main election office to do so.

Authorities say a Champaign woman whose remains were found in Clinton Lake last April had been using cocaine days before. Prosecutors revealed the results of an autopsy on the body of Ashley Gibson Monday in Champaign County Circuit Court, where Davion Hedrick, 27, of Champaign pleaded guilty to a count of dismembering a human body.

Janet Reno, the first woman to serve as attorney general of the United States, died early Monday from complications of Parkinson's disease. Reno's goddaughter Gabrielle D'Alemberte and sister Margaret Hurchalla confirmed her passing to NPR.
