U Of I Memo Makes Plans For Possible Layoffs

A memo obtained by Illinois Public Media from the U of I's Associated Provost for Human Resources indicates that some jobs on the Urbana campus, including some in Civil Service, could be cut, effective at the start of the fall semester.  The president of AFSCME Local 3700 questions why she wasn't informed of these plans. She says union members are 'scared.'

Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Launch Two-Day Strike At U Of I

Members of the union representing non-tenure-track faculty at the University of Illinois went on strike Tuesday morning, launching a two-day work stoppage.  In a mass e-mail, administrators questioned the goals of the strike, saying tentative agreements have been reached in 14 areas, including several "key items."  But Union President Shawn Gilmore called those areas "small."

UI Non-Tenured Track Faculty Holding 2-Day Strike

About 500 University of Illinois faculty and reseachers will walk off the job Tuesday and Wednesday. NTFC Local #6546 is holding its strike to try and prompt U of I administrators to discuss how they plan to proceed in collective bargaining.  Among the union's demands are multi-year contracts for non-tenured faculty.

McFadden Again Wins Boston Marathon

University of Illinois graduate Tatyana McFadden has won her fourth straight women's wheelchair race at the Boston Marathon.  McFadden completed the 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton to Copley Square in an official time of 1 hour, 42 minutes, 16 seconds.
