U of I music professor and composer debuts new opera production

Carlos Carillo is an associate professor of music theory and composition at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Chicago Opera Theater is premiering a new work from him called "Remedios Varios para las Aflicciones del Cuerpo y el Espíritu." Carillo joins the program today to discuss his musical background and what inspired his latest work.

Acclaimed pianist Conrad Tao discusses creating classical music, his Illinois roots

Pianist and composer Conrad Tao is based in New York City, but was born in Urbana and spent a portion of his childhood in Chicago. He returns to the Windy City this week to perform at the Nova Linea Musica series. Tao discusses how he got into piano playinh in his childhood, creating his own compositions, and the Chicago music scene.

New hotline aims to support LGBTQ Illinoisans amid tough political climate

In a collaboration between the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services and several nonprofits, Governor JB Pritzker recently announced a new resource for LGBTQ individuals in the state. This comes as the Trump administration rolls back similar supports for the community.
