The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra started in 1916, but its modern history dates from 1965 when arts patron Joseph Meyerhoff became president, and he hired Sergiu Comissiona as conductor, who greatly raised the ranking of the orchestra. In 1985, David Zinman began a 13 year residence during which he made many recordings.

On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will hear the Baltimore ensemble on records.
