The Evening Concert

Thursday night March 28 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.

Wednesday night March 27 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear the California Symphony led by Music Director Donato Cabrera, who is a 1998 graduate of the University of Illinois’ Orchestral Conducting program. You’ll hear Viet Cuong’s Next Week’s Trees”, Elgar’s “Cello Concerto”, and Tchaikovsky’s “5th Symphony”.

Tuesday night March 26 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. From the CSO’s archives Pierre Boulez leads the group in Haydn’s “103rd Symphony”, and Bartok’s “The Miraculous Mandarin”.  Also on the program Ligeti’s “Piano Concerto” with soloist Pierre-Laurent Aimard.

Monday night March 25 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Emanuel Ax is the soloist in Beethoven’s “4th Piano Concerto”. Also on the program, Ives’ “The Unanswered Question” and symphonies by Webern and Schoenberg.

Sunday night March 24 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Shostakovich’s “1st Piano Trio” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by Ginastera’s “Harp Concerto” on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Valerie Coleman’s “Afro” on Gateways Radio.

Wednesday night March 20 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear the California Symphony led by Music Director Donato Cabrera in Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide”, Gabriela Lena Frank’s “3 Latin-American Dances” and Beethoven’s “3rd Piano Concerto” with soloist Charlie Albright.

Tuesday night March 19 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Janacek’s “Sinfonietta”, Copland’s “Dance Symphony” waltzes by Johann Strauss, Jr. and Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”.  

Monday night March 18 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. The program begins with Webern’s “In the Summer Wind” and is followed by Schoenberg’s “Pelleas and Melisande”. The program concludes with Charles Ives’ “2nd Symphony”.

Sunday night March 17 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Dvorak’s “Opus 26 Piano Trio” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by Manuel de Falla’s “El Amor Brujo” on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.
