The Evening Concert

Thursday night April 11 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night April 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear Stravinsky’s “The Firebird”, along with Sibelius’s Luonnotar with soprano Golda Schultz, and the United States premiere of Daniel Kidane’s SF Symphony commission, Sun Poem.

Tuesday night April 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Guest conductor Klaus Mäkelä returns lead to the CSO in Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. The program includes the U.S. premiere of Aino by Jimmy López Bellido, which the CSO co-commissioned.

Monday night April 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Yefim Bronfman is the soloist in Prokofiev’s “2nd Piano Concerto”. Alan Gilbert conducts. Also on the program Rachmaninoff’s “2nd Symphony”.

Sunday night April 7 the Evening Concert starts at 5:00 o’clock with the “Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”, followed at 6:00 by the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”, at 7:00 by Fiesta, and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Wednesday night April 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear the first program in a new season from the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear Trevor Weston’s “Push” and Mahler’s “2nd Symphony”. 

Tuesday night April 2 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. From the CSO’s archives you’ll hear Goldmark’s “In Springtime”, Schumann’s “Spring Symphony” and Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth).

Monday night April 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Mezzo-soprano soloist Petra Lang, the Women of the Westminster Chorus, and the American Boychoir join the Philharmonic in Mahler’s “3rd Symphony”. Alan Gilbert conducts.

Sunday night March 31 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Debussy’s “Jeux” in a two-piano version from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by Francisco Mignone’s “Piano Concerto” on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.
