The Evening Concert

Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla guest conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

String Quartets by Haydn and Shostakovich and a String Sextet by Brahms.

On the program are (Bernstein's) The Symphonic Suite from "On the Waterfront", (Barber's) "Violin Concerto" and (Rachmaninov's) "Symphonic Dances".

Tilting at windwills, it's "Don Quixote" by Strauss, with "Ein Heldenleben" (A Hero's Life) as the 'double' of this double-billing.

"Don Q" to String Quartets, "Symphonic Dances" to "Music from the Polish Court" from New York, Chicago, Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles, Lincoln Center and beyond.

A sonata by Ravel and a piano quintet by Vierne followed by an exploration of what became know as the "fantastic style", composers like Buxtehude and other composers of his generation.

Including four "Danzons" by Marquez, including the World Premier of the 9th "Danzon".

Susanna Malkki guest conducts, Gil Shaham solos in Bartok's"2nd Violin Concerto".

Standards by Gershwin, music by Bernstein and marches by Sousa are featured.
