With Illinois in its sixth month without a budget, the state's top political leaders met Tuesday in Springfield. It was the first time they'd all gotten together in months. Was anything accomplished?

A former prosecutor in the Cook County State's Attorney's office says it took far too long to investigate the shooting death of Chicago teen Laquan McDonald at the hands of a white police officer. That prosecutor happens to be running for U.S. Senate.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has been fired after widespread criticism for his handling of a high-profile shooting of a black teenager that led to white officer being charged with first degree murder.  Protesters have been calling for McCarthy's dismissal.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Jacob K. Morrissey, 26, Mahomet, was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.  A report from the Champaign County Sheriff says Morrissey appears to have shot himself while in the attic of a Rantoul home late Monday night. 

Jesse White, Illinois' longtime Secretary of State, was a student at Alabama State College (now Alabama State University) in Montgomery during the 1950s, and took part in the bus boycott combatting segregation on city buses.
