The environmental advocacy group Prairie Rivers Network holds its annual dinner Friday night at the I-Hotel in Champaign.

This year’s keynote speaker is John Kanter, Senior Wildlife Biologist at the National Wildlife Federation. He’ll be joined by his brother Rob, an associate professor at the University of Illinois, and host of WILL’s Environmental Almanac.

Illinois Public Media’s Brian Moline spoke with both Kanter brothers about their message to tonight’s audience, and how they developed their love of nature.

"It started for me with a fascination with African wildlife, and watching Mutual of Omaha (Wild Kingdom)," John Kanter said, "and going to the Cincinnati Zoo. Being the youngest, sometimes my wishes were granted, and I would drag everyone else along."

"We ended up being happy to go along, too," Rob Kanter said.

You can find more information about the event at the Prairie Rivers Network website.
