McMillan Chosen As New U of I Trustees Chairman
University of Illinois trustees have chosen Ed McMillan, who's been on the board since 2009, to lead with the departure of Chris Kennedy.
Kennedy is a Democrat and is stepping down when his term expires this month, assuming that Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner would not reappoint him. McMillan is a Republican.
The 68-year old McMillan is a retired business executive from Greenville, about 40 miles east of St. Louis. From 1988 to 1996, he was president and CEO of Purina Mills.
"I've seen first hand how the University's academic programs transform the lives of students and how its research discovery leads the way to progress and economic growth," McMillan said, in a press release. "Our board is committed to building on its rich legacy of excellence and extending its service to society for generations to come."
The hiring of incoming University of Illinois-Chicago Chancellor Michael Amiridis was also approved Thursday.
