Sinfonia Da Camera Featuring All-Beethoven Program At Krannert
The chamber orchestra Sinfonia Da Camera is in its 34th season in residence at the University of Illinois. The group is led by music director and conductor Ian Hobson, who is also the orchestra’s featured solo pianist this season.
Friday, Sinfonia Da Camera will feature an all-Beethoven program at Foellinger Great Hall inside Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana.
Illinois Public Media’s Brian Moline spoke with Ian Hobson, who says this isn’t the first time Sinfonia has featured an all-Beethoven program.
"We do this from time to time," Hobson said of a program that includes the Overture to "Coriolan," Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, and Symphony No. 7 in A Major.
Tonight's program is titled "Beethoven's Apotheosis of the Dance," which is a quote from composer Richard Wagner about Symphony No. 7.
At the end of this interview, you'll hear an excerpt of the Largo movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto number one that Ian Hobson just mentioned, being performed here by Maurizio Pollini and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
