Suspect Charged In Murder Of Champaign Swarm Player

Murder charges have been filed against a Chicago man in the shooting death this week Champaign Swarm basketball player Jonathan Mills.

Authorities say 24-year-old Travel Taylor was charged Friday in the fatal shooting Monday of the 26 year old Mills. The former Chicago high school basketball standout was on a street on the city’s West Side when he was approached by a gunman who shot him multiple times.

Chicago police say Taylor was identified as the shooter and was arrested Thursday.

Taylor is scheduled to appear Saturday at a bond hearing. It wasn't immediately known if Taylor has legal representation.

Mills played eight games with the Champaign Swarm of the Midwest Professional Basketball Association this year, averaging 14.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Previously, Mills played college basketball at the University of Southern Mississippi. In high school, he played forward and center for North Lawndale College prep, leading the team to the Public League title in 2009 and third place in the Illinois Class 3A state tournament.
