U of I Alum Proposes New Presentation For Chief Illiniwek
Justin Striebel has a proposal he thinks could keep the tradition of Chief Illiniwek alive at the University of Illinois Urbana campus, while also honoring Native American history and cultures.
Striebel is a University of Illinois alumnus who loves Chief Illiniwek. But he says he understands why others oppose the longtime symbol, which was retired in 2007. Now, as university officials look into possibly creating a mascot for the Urbana campus, Striebel has another idea, which he talked about with Illinois Public Media's Jim Meadows.
Striebel, who works for a St. Louis ad agency as a graphic designer, recently posted his proposal online at achiefsolution.com
