Urbana Sweetcorn Festival This Weekend

You have the chance to sample sweet corn, music and local merchandise in downtown Urbana during the annual Sweetcorn Festival.

The festival runs through Saturday night and organizers expect 50-thousand people to attend.

Paris Baldarotta, executive director at the Urbana Business Association, says all the vendors and musicians are local this year.

"We just wanted to highlight our local community, our talented musicians and local businesses and bring the festival  back to its roots," Baldarotta said.

So where do they get the sweet corn? "We actually get our sweetcorn from Maddox Farms in Warrenburg, Illinois. We serve over 20,000 ears each year," Baldarotta added.

This year people only need a ticket for sweetcorn and the beer tent. If you want to play games or buy merchandise, Baldarotta says you need to bring cash or a credit card.
