Windless Winter
On this week's Prairie Performances, Friday at 7 pm on WILL-FM 90.9: Hear Sinfonia da Camera, led by Ian Hobson, in a concert titled “Windless Winter”. It features the strings and the percussion section of the orchestra, and the winds- the trumpets, the trombones, the clarinets, the oboes, the horns, the tuba, are all silent. They are not heard in Arcangelo Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto," nor Peter Warlock’s “Capriol Suite," nor in the “Concertino for Tympani, Percussion, and Strings” by Andrzej Panufnik, though we will hear percussionists, Ricardo Flores and William Moersch as soloists. The concert closes with a well-known masterpiece that omits the winds, Tchaikovsky’s beloved “Serenade for Strings."
