There is an extended wildflower show that takes place each spring in the woodlands of Illinois, beginning in February and peaking in early May, when a dozen species can be seen flowering at once

Bassist and Champaign native Viktor Krauss returns to central Illinois for a performance at the Allerton Music Barn Saturday evening. He’s joined by harpist Maeve Gilchrist, and they’ll be playing selections from their new album “Vignette,” available on Adventure Records.

On Sunday (May 21), the Champaign-based Prairie Rivers Network will mark its 50th anniversary, with an afternoon of events at Allerton Park, near Monticello.

Spokesman Jeff Kohmstedt said the Champaign-based environmental group believes its work is increasingly important, as President Donald Trump’s administration promises to cut back Environmental Protection Agency oversight.
