An Asian Carp was caught recently in a place where it shouldn’t be – beyond an electric barrier meant to keep the species out of Lake Michigan and the rest of the Great Lakes. Researchers at Southern Illinois University are trying to figure out just how it got there.
Fears that the invasive Asian carp could show up in the Great Lakes were renewed, when one of the fish was caught on June 22 near the T.J. O’Brien Lock and Dam in the Little Calumet River, just nine miles from Lake Michigan.

U of I Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences Professor Cory Suski's latest research involves juvenile Asian carp. Like the adults, he says high concentrations of carbon dioxide will make the eight-day old fish also feel 'woozy' and swim away.
