Getting the right treatment for a child who has autism can be tough. And parents can run into the same problems for a child who has a mental illness. So imagine what happens when a child has autism — and is mentally ill.

For people with disabilities like autism, watching a play -- with surprises, bright lights and loud noises -- can be overwhelming.  This week, an Indianapolis theater staged a special performance of Dickens' Christmas Carol that was designed for people with autism.

Pianist and composer Dr. Charles Joseph Smith was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. 

A Cook County Circuit judge has ordered Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Nirav Shah to reconsider his decision not to include migraine headaches on a list of conditions that qualify for medical marijuana treatment.  The judge said Shah cannot use evidence conducted outside the administrative hearing process.

Illinois' medical marijuana pillot program has been extended from January 2018 to July 2020. The measure signed last week by Gov. Bruce Rauner also means PTSD and terminal illness are now among the qualifying conditions. But the primary sponsor of the pilot program also means it will become more difficult to add more qualifying conditions.
