For the second time in five months, Governor Bruce Rauner's administration has rejected expanding the list of diseases that can be treated with marijuana in Illinois, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The Department of Public Health announced the decision Friday.
Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board Chair Leslie Mendoza Temple wants more feedback from Gov. Rauner's administration after 11 conditions were rejected for treatment. Three of them, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, were endorsed a second time by the panel last week.
Illinois legislators will return to Springfield Tuesday, leaving them one last day to get a budget deal in order. This year's spending plan expires at midnight on June 30. Not only is there no long-term agreement, there's no sign of a provisional one either.
The Illinois Senate Wednesday voted overwhelmingly to sweep reserves from special state funds. The plan is to reverse $26-million in budget cuts to state grants for programs like a tobacco quitline, and one benefitting children with autism.
