Attorney General Seeks Stay Of Tax Ruling Impacting Urbana Hospitals

The Illinois Attorney General's office wants the 4th District Appellate Court to delay enforcement of the January 5 ruling which found a 2012 state law involving tax exemptions for hospitals that provide charity care to be unconstitutional. The motion for a stay was filed with the appelate court on January 28.  Carle is appealing last month's ruling to the Illinois Supreme Court.

Carle To Appeal Ruling On State Law Regarding Tax Exemption

Carle will file its appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court by the February 9th deadline.  Earlier this month, a state appellate court ruled Illinois' law governing when hospitals are property tax exempt for charity care is unconstitutional. A Carle spokesperson says it's about "protecting the community's health care resources."

Health Alliance CEO Stepping Down

In a statement, Jeff Ingrum, who's been CEO of Health Alliance Medical Plans for 18 years, is resigning in less than two weeks, saying he 'feels it's time to move on to something new.' 

Carle Foundation president and CEO James Leonard will become the new CEO at Health Alliance, while John M. Snyder, Carle Executive Vice President and System CEO will assume day-to-day operations at the insurer.
