Doctors from both Carle and Christie Clinic will be treating patients at a new surgery center to be built near the I-57 Curtis Road interchange southwest of Champaign. Officials with both organizations held a ground breaking ceremony Wednesday morning for the facility.

The pilot program currently has about 6,000 patients, not close to what advocates were hoping for at this point.  They say there are number of reasons behind that - including the application process, and the state's failure to expand the list of qualifying conditions.  Without legislative action, it will expire in January 2018. 

Drivers may need to plan ahead and can expect traffic delays during marathon hours between 7:00am to 2:00pm.
