Six months after the last family moved out of Champaign’s Bristol Place neighborhood, the last structure on the site has been torn down, to make room for construction of a new housing development in the coming months.
The last family was scheduled to move out of Champaign’s Bristol Place Friday, as the city and local housing authority prepare the north side neighborhood for redevelopment. Meanwhile, a major funding component for the new development meant to replace the old neighborhood was approved by a state panel in Chicago.
The Mayor of Champaign wants to hear from residents as the city council sets its goals for the next two years.
Two proposed developments in downtown Champaign have joined together for what would be the largest conference center in Champaign-Urbana. Developer Hans Grotelueschen has moved his hotel and conference center project a few blocks south from its original proposed location at Washington and Walnut to merge with the planned expansion of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District’s Illinois Terminal.
The Champaign City Council Tuesday will be asked to approve the last lawsuit settlement involving former city police officer Matt Rush – who the city permanently terminated a month ago Friday. Three previous excessive force lawsuit settlements involving Rush totaled $320,000. The last, for $250,000, involves a lawsuit filed by Precious Jackson against Rush and two other officers – regarding her arrest in May 2014.
