On Today's 21st: Beginning Tuesday, all students at both public and private schools across the state will be staying home in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

On Today's 21st: While a majority of people experience mild symptoms if they contract COVID-19 from the coronavirus, health experts say it’s the elderly who are most at risk. We heard from several people involved with elder care.

The coronavirus has prompted many colleges and universities across the country to cancel study abroad programs — including the U of I. University officials announced via email on March 2 that students and staff had to leave Italy and the Daegu region of South Korea as soon as possible. The decision affected 137 students in Italy, and another 15 in South Korea. Students and staff are also barred from traveling to China, Iran, Italy and the Daegu region of South Korea on university business or using university resources.

The coronavirus has spread to 35 states. But most of them, including Illinois, don’t require employers to provide paid sick leave.
