CU Fresh Start held its sixth “Call-In” Thursday, attempting to set a new path for young men in trouble for gun-related offenses in Champaign-Urbana. At the same time, local officials say they’re looking at ways to expand the program’s reach.

City officials from both Champaign and Urbana have signed onto a plan to eliminate HIV in the region, as part of a statewide initiative in Illinois called “Getting To Zero," which aims to reduce the number of new HIV cases in Illinois to less than 100 by the year 2030. 

Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen is asking voters to elect her to a second term, so she can continue to work on projects she says have helped the city grow and improve. Feinen, an attorney, is facing challenger Azark David Cobbs in the April 2nd municipal election. 

The Champaign City Council voted Tuesday evening to create a citizens advisory committee to review Champaign Police Department complaint investigations.

The Champaign City Council gets its first look during its study session on Tuesday evening (Jan. 24) at proposals for handling citizen complaints about police.

Those include a police review board that would review those complaints and how the city investigates them.
