The City Council in Decatur has raised the amount of marijuana someone can possess and still be guilty of no more than a city-code violation punishable by fines.

It's been nearly a week since Decatur's 5-cent a gallon motor fuel tax, for street repairs, took effect.  The city is also is charging a extra penny for diesel fuel.  Jay Billingsley, a third-generation gas station owner, calls it a "tough pill to swallow," but says he also has many loyal customers.  Public Works Director Rick Marley says the tax is needed for "hundreds" of projects.

The Piatt County Board, Normal Town Council and the Decatur City Council all voted this week to approve a consent decree meant to keep future hazardous waste out of the Clinton Landfill. But local officials in Urbana, Forsyth and Champaign County delayed their decision.

McElroy died just past 8:30 Friday morning after suffering a medical emergency while driving.  He had served as mayor since 2009, and was re-elected in April.  Gov. Bruce Rauner said 'his passion for the community was infectious.'
