Parents of college students and high school seniors headed that way should be busy filling out financial aid paperwork — if they haven’t already.

Saturday is the first day that prospective college students and their families can begin filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA for short.  That’s much earlier than in previous years, and that’s not the only change in the FAFSA process in 2016.

One high school counselor says the budget uncertainty, particularly with the Monetary Award Program, or MAP grants, is pushing some students to attend college out of state.

There are at least 1,500 college students in Illinois who are undocumented. Now - they’re heading to Springfield to try to get help with financial aid. 

Also, election boards around Illinois are warning that the state budget impasse could cause headaches for voters come November.
