While a handful of sites grow Illinois' first medical marijuana, those suffering from a number of conditions are waiting for the first dispensaries to open. There's also an effort underway to expand the pilot program that expires in just over two years.

State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie) said while Illinois' Public Health Department should have met its deadline to include 11 more qualifying conditions into the medical cannabis program, he said it could still be done quickly by emergency rule.
