Salaita, whose faculty appointment was withdrawn after a series of controversial tweets criticizing Israel, spoke with Illinois Public Media's Jim Meadows, during a visit to Champaign-Urbana Tuesday. He was in town to talk about his new book, "Uncivil Rites: Palestine and the Limits of Academic Freedom".

Sports reporter Julie DiCaro recently wrote an article for Sports Illustrated detailing the abuse that she and other female reporters receive regularly on social media.  She discussed the article with Illinois Public Media's Brian Moline.

The City of Peoria is paying $125,000 to a man who created a parody Twitter account of the city’s mayor.  The payment settles a federal lawsuit involving free speech and social media.

“Black Lives Matter has become something that’s very easy to identify, and I’m going to say it again, it’s more hashtag than reality," said Cha-Jua, "and if these kids think that they can tweet their damn way to freedom, then they are sorely misguided.”

“I was violated, basically," she says. "I feel violated. I don’t feel like we have freedom anymore.”
