Willard Airport says American Airlines will begin service between the Champaign-Urbana airport and Charlotte, North Carolina, starting in December. 

United Airlines announced this week that they’re returning to Champaign-Urbana’s Willard Airport, with three daily flights to and from Chicago.  That’s good news for an airport that’s only had major airline service from American Airlines to Chicago and Dallas for the past five years.

Willard Airport is welcoming back United Airlines after a two-decade absence. The airport serving Champaign-Urbana says United will begin flights between Willard and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, beginning June 8.

An estimated 600 people attended Sunday’s rally against President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries. The event came together after organizers like Ann Abbott reached out on Facebook the night before. She says the Trump administration is trying to use fear to pit U.S. citizens against one another. “This is not 2001, this is 2017, and we are smart, not scared,” she told the crowd.

The two occupants of a small training helicopter walked away without injury after it crashed at the University of Illinois’ Willard Airport around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Willard Executive Director Gene Cossey says during a landing procedure, they lost control of the aircraft, which skidded down the runway and flipped over.
