Gifford: Two Years Later

There are no big ceremonies Tuesday to mark the two-year mark of the EF-4 tornado that tore through the tiny Champaign County village of Gifford, destroying or damaging 70 homes.  "We did not want to always dwell on the destruction of what had happened that day," said Christina Gann, who was a large part of relief efforts in 2013 and 2014.

Wheelchair Basketball Group Looks To Build On Nugent’s Vision

University of Illinois wheelchair athlete and graduate Sarah Castle is the president of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, founded nearly 70 years ago by 'Father of Accessibility' Tim Nugent, who died this week.  "His passion and his love for the game, but also his desire for the well-being of every athlete was completly apparent," she said.

U of I Hopes To Thaw State Budget Standoff… With Giant Cardboard Declaration

In the 4.5 months Illinois has gone without a budget, public colleges and universities have received no funding from the state, forcing them to cut staff, dip into cash reserves and do whatever's necessary to stay afloat. Officials from the state's biggest university are hopeful that political leaders in Springfield will hear their plea.
