The Evening Concert

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Bruckner’s “8th Symphony” from New York, Corigliano’s “1st Symphony” from Chicago, Beethoven’s “Emperor Piano Concerto” from Carnegie Hall, Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto” from Los Angeles, then Sunday two Holiday specials: “A Choral Christmas with Stile Antico” and “Gaudete: Early Music for the Christmas Season”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Stravinsky’s “Petrushka” in a piano four-hand version on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear Latin American music for the saxophone on “Fiesta! With Elbio Barilari”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Yefim Bronfman is the soloist in Brahms’ “2nd Piano Concerto”. Zubin Mehta conducts this archival performance.  Also on the program Brahms’ “2nd Symphony in D Major”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s Carnegie Hall Live.  Marc-Andre Hamelin is the soloist in Liszt’s “1st Piano Concerto” with the Budapest Festival Orchestra.   Also on the program Bartok’s “Op. 14 Suite for Solo Piano” and Dvorak’s “Dumky” Piano Trio. 

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Alexander Gavrylyuk is the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s “1st Piano Concerto”. Thomas Søndergård guest conducts. Also on the program music from Sibelius’ “King Christian II” and Rachmaninoff’s “1st Symphony”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear two works on the program: Mahler’s “1st Symphony” conducted by Zubin Mehta, and Mahler’s “4th Symphony” conducted by Leonard Bernstein and featuring Reri Grist.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s Carnegie Hall Live. Pierre-Laurent Aimard is the soloist in Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G Major” with the Munich Philharmonic.   Also on the program Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe, Berlioz’ “The Death of Cleopatra” and Debussy’s “Images” for piano.
