The Evening Concert

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mozart’s “23rd Piano Concerto” from New York, Sibelius’ “Violin Concerto” from Chicago, Berg’s “Violin Concerto” from Berlin,  Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony from Pittsburgh, then Sunday Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” in a two-piano version from Lincoln Center and Dvorak’s “Piano Quintet” from Santa Fe.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Poulenc’s “Sonata for Two Clarinets” on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”.  At 8:00 you’ll hear music from a new release “Song of Beasts: Fantastic Creatures in Medieval Song” on “Early Music Now”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. You’ll hear Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”, Copland’s “Appalachian Spring”, Bernstein’s “Fancy Free” and Griffes’ “The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan”. Michael Stern guest conducts.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The Berlin Music Festival” with the Berlin Philharmonic led by Vladimir Jurowski. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “5th Symphony”, Webern’s “Orchestral Variations” and Webern’s orchestration of Bach’s “Fugue in Six Voices from The Musical Offering”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Music Director Riccardo Muti leads the CSO in Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony”, Tchaikovsky’s “3rd Symphony” and Stravinsky’s “Suite from The Firebird”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Lisa Batiashvili is the soloist in Mozart’s “3rd Violin Concerto”. Alan Gilbert conducts.  Also on the program Berlioz’s “Corsaire” Overture and Debussy’s “La Mer”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “Early Music in Knechtsteden, Part Two”. Dorothee Oberlinger is the recorder soloist in many short works by Anonymous composers. Also on the program Handel’s cantata “Mi palpita il cor” with counter-tenor Dmitri Sinkovsky.
