The Evening Concert

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “Collectors’ Corner with Henry Fogel” with another program in the series of recordings by the Berlin Philharmonic led by Wilhelm Furtwangler. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “5th Symphony”, Brahms “2nd Piano Concerto” with soloist Edwin Fischer, and Sibelius’ “Violin Concerto” with soloist Georg Kulenkampff.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Cleveland Orchestra with a program from their archives from 1965. It’s an all-Sibelius program on which you’ll hear “En Saga”, the “4th Symphony” and the “7th Symphony. George Szell conducts.

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story””,  Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture” , Ives’ “The Unanswered Question”  and selections from John Williams’ score to the movie “Lincoln”.  The program differs from the one listed in Patterns Magazine.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Julia Fischer is the soloist in Mozart’s “5th Violin Concerto”, the “Turkish”.  Lorin Maazel conducts.  Also on the program, Dvorak’s “Carnival Overture” and Brahms’ “1st Symphony”.

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mozart’s “5th Violin Concerto”  from New York, Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story”” from Chicago, Sibelius’ “4th  Symphony” from Cleveland, Beethoven’s “5th Symphony” on “Collectors Corner” then Sunday Nielsen’s Op. 43 “Wind Quintet” from Lincoln Center and an episode of “Early Music Now”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Beethoven’s Op. 74 “Harp” String Quartet on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music by the Lantins Brothers from the late 14th century on “Early Music Now with Sara Schneider”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 we pre-empt “Collectors’ Corner with Henry Fogel” to bring you a Thanksgiving Holiday special: “Giving Thanks: A Celebration of Fall, Food, and Gratitude”. You’ll hear classical music and poems related to the Holiday.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s a program from the Cleveland Orchestra Radio network. Vinay Paremeswaren leads the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra in Sibelius’ “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program, Annie Zhang is the soloist in Shostakovich’s “1st Cello Concerto”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear two Mozart symphonies, the “25th” in G Minor and the “34th”. Riccardo Muti conducts.  Also on the program Strauss’ “Aus Italien” and Liszt’s “Les Preludes”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” with an all-Strauss program led by Lorin Maazel.  Philip Myers is the soloist in the “Horn Concerto No. 1”.  Also on the program, “An Alpine Symphony” and “Till Eulenspiegels’ Merry Pranks”.
