The Evening Concert

Sunday night August 25 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL- FM 90.9 you’ll hear Arvo Pärt’s “Mirror in Mirror” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by pianist Edison Quintana on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Thursday night August 22 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night August 21 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. You’ll hear two works inspired by cities: New York and Los Angeles: Aaron Copland’s “Quiet City” and John Adams’ “City Noir”.  Also on the program Timo Andres’ “Made of Tunes”.

Tuesday night  at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Music Director Designate Klaus Mäkelä (MEHK-a-la) lead the group in music of Mahler, his “5th Symphony” and Jimmy Lopez Bellido, his  “Aino” (EYE-no). 

Monday night August 19 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  You’ll hear five of the Orchestra's principal players as concerto soloists in music by Copland, Samuel Barber, William Bolcom, Julia Adolphe, and Mozart.

Sunday night August 18 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL- FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mozart’s K.285 “Flute Quartet” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by music of Luis Gianneo (ja-NEO) on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Wednesday night August 14 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Bass player Victor Wooten is the soloist in his work he calls “The Three Lessons”. Thomas Wilkins guest conducts.  Also on the program Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from West Side Story”.

Tuesday night August 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. It’s a program of works conducted by guest conductors Leopold Stokowski, John Williams, Neeme Jarvi and Pierre Monteux.

Monday night August 12 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  All the works on the program are by Leonard Bernstein. You’ll hear the Chichester Psalms, The Symphony No. 3 “Kaddish”, and the two Dybbuk Suites.
