She's the soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra in two cello concertos by two "Edwards/Eduoards": Elgar and Lalo.
These two works both written within the last fifteen years of the 19th century could be seen as opposite to each other in 'sentiment': Elgar's musical portraits versus the pondering of one's life and passing.
Thomas Hampson sings the "Kindertotenlieder" (Songs on the Death of Children), a song cycle from 1904.
Music from New York, Chicago, Cleveland Milwaukee, then back to nNew York and out west to Santa Fe.
Also on the program: music of Vivaldi, Corelli, and others.
MSO = Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra with the "1st Cello Concerto" and "Scheherazade".
Also on the program: Brahms' '3rd Symphony'...
Rachmaninov's "1st" [Piano Concerto] was written in 1891 and revised in 1917. It is usual to hear the 1917 version not the manuscript (1891) version.
This is program number 4 in a 10part mini-Mahler-fest from the New York Philharmonic.
A "4th Symphony", a "Piano Concerto No. 1", a "3rd Symphony", a "Cello Concerto No. 1" and more; tune in at 7 pm.
