The Evening Concert

The Cooper International Competition is held annually and presents monetary prizes for violin performace and piano performance. Started in 1985, the competition gained it's [new] title (Cooper) in 2010 due to the generosity of the Coopers (Thomas and Evon).

Dame Mitsuko has been playing and conducting the Mozart piano concertos from the keyboard for much of her life, most recently with the Cleveland Orchestra in recent recordings and here with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Verdi's "Requiem" is, perhaps, the most performed of the Requiem Mass settings next to Mozart's "Requiem"...you can hear why this is so by tuning in at 7:00 pm tonight.

Brahms' 3rd Symphony is often considered a "lighter" symphony than the 4th; by comparison it is less "weighty" based upon modality, major versus minor.

It'll be Brahms' 3rd & 4th symphonies, Elgar's 1st, and Beethoven's 7th, among other great symphonic and other works on the "Evening Concert".
