The Evening Concert

At 7:00 it's 'Music for Winds" by French composers on "The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center", followed at 8:00 by the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival: music of Busoni, Schumann and Schubert.

Brahms and Tchaikovsky share a May 7th birthdate, although they are seven years apart: 1833 for Brahms, 1840 for Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky died in 1893 at the age of 53, Brahms in 1897, just shy of his 64th birthday. Their music shares a certain sensibility of deeply running passion.

Mozart's 20th Piano Concerto in D Minor is now a standard piece in the repertoire. In it's day, though it was considered revolutionary.

Common wisdom is that the Margrave (of Brandenburg) never bothered to perform these fabulous works [Bach's Brandenburg Concertos], and perhaps never even examined the score.

It must be "Concerto" Week on the "Evening Concert"! By virtue of the order of releases from our performing groups there'll be upwards of half a dozen or more concertos on this week's "Evening Concert".
