The Evening Concert

Thursday night September 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “Carnegie Hall Live”. Dame Mitsuko Uchida is the piano soloist and conductor of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Mozart’s “25th and 27th Piano Concertos”.  Also on the program the Schoenberg’s “Chamber Symphony”.  

Wednesday night September 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Recorded in May of this year you’ll hear LA Phil’s Principal Violinist Martin Chalifour as soloist in the Dvorak “Violin Concerto”. Also on the program Bruckner’s “7th Symphony”.

Tuesday night September 5 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Sibelius’ “Finlandia” and “5th Symphony” and “The Swan of Tuonela”. Hannu Lintu guest conducts. Also on the program Nielsens’ “Violin Concerto” with soloist Pekka Kuusisto.

Monday night September 4 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  You’ll hear Respighi’s “Roman Festivals” and “Pines of Rome”. Also on the program Holst’s “The Planets”.

Sunday night September 3 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Hummel’s “Piano Quintet” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by Mexican music for the piano on “Fiesta” and at 8:00 by Hailstork’s “An American Port of Call” on “Gateways Radio”.

Thursday night August 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “Carnegie Hall Live”. You’ll hear the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra led by Christian Thielemann play Richard Strauss’ “An Alpine Symphony”.  Also on the program the Schoenberg’s “Transfigured Night”.

Wednesday night August 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Recorded in March and April of this year you’ll hear Tchaikovsky’s lush “5th Symphony” with Elim Chan conducting.  Also on the program Thomas Ades’ “Concentric Paths” Violin Concerto with soloist Leila Josefowicz.

Tuesday night August 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  From the archives you’ll hear Haydn’s “95th Symphony” and Schubert’s “9th Symphony”, the “Great” C Major Symphony. Daniel Barenboim conducts. Also on the program Schoenberg’s “Pelleas and Melisande”.

Monday night August 28 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  You’ll hear Beethoven’s “Fifth” and Dvorak’s “Ninth” symphonies where each movement is performed with a different conductor.  Also on the program Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”.

Sunday night August 27 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Beethoven’s Opus 9, No. 2 “String Trio” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by classical music from Spain on “Fiesta” and at 8:00 by cellist Thapelo Masita on “Gateways Radio”.
