The Evening Concert

Thursday night August 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “Carnegie Hall Live”.  The Brentano String Quartet is featured as they perform Fanny Mendelssohn’s “String Quartet”, Bartok’s “5th String Quartet” and one of the “Russian” Quartets by Haydn.

Wednesday night August 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Recorded in March of this year you’ll hear soloist Randall Goosby play Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto”. Dalia Stasevska guest conducts. Also on the program Sibelius’ “2nd Symphony”.

Tuesday night August 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Rachmaninoff’s “2nd Piano Concerto” with soloist Lukáš Vondráček. Marin Alsop guest conducts. Also on the program Elgar's "Enigma Variations".

Monday night August 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  You’ll hear Beethoven’s “Missa solemnis” (Solemn Mass) with vocal soloists Christine Brewer, Jane Henschel, Anthony Dean Griffey, and Eric Owens. Alan Gilbert conducts.

Sunday night August 6 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Frank Bridge’s “Piano Quintet” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by Latin American classical music sonatas on “Fiesta” and at 8:00 by William Grant Still’s “Afro-American Symphony” on “Gateways Radio”.

Wednesday night August 2nd at at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Recorded in March of this year you’ll hear Berlioz’s “Symphony fantastique”. Zubin Mehta conducts. Also on the program George Crumb’s song cycle “Ancient Voices of Children”.

Tuesday night August 1st at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “7th Symphony”. Bernard Haitink guest conducts. Also on the program Brahms’ “2nd Symphony” and Weber’s Overture to “Der Freischutz”.

Monday night July 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From concerts recorded in 2015 you’ll hear soloist Anthony McGill play Nielsen’s “Clarinet Concerto”. Alan Gilbert conducts.  Also on the program Ravel’s “Noble and Sentimental Waltzes”.
