The Evening Concert

Wednesday night January 11 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the second program in a new series: “Orchestras from the European Broadcasting Union”. Simon Rattle leads the London Philharmonic in Schumann’s “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program Walker’s “Lilacs” with vocal soloist Nicole Cabell.

Tuesday night January 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Xian Zhang guest conducts the CSO in Prokofiev’s “6th Symphony”. Also on the program Grieg’s “Piano Concerto” with soloist Simon Trpčeski.

Monday night January 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” with “An All-American New Year’s Program”. Thomas Hampson sings selections from Copland’s “Old American Songs” and standards by Cole Porter.

Sunday night January 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Franz Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music by Peruvian composer Celsa Garrido-Lecca on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night January 5 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “Overture to Egmont” and Mendelssohn’s “3rd Symphony”, the ‘Scottish’. Osmo Vanska guest conducts. Also on the program Saariaho’s “Flute Concerto” with soloist Lorna McGhee.

Wednesday night January 4 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the first program in a new series: “Orchestras from the European Broadcasting Union”. Vladimir Jurowski leads the London Philharmonic in Enescu’s “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program Elgar’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Julia Fischer. 

Tuesday January 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Concertmaster Robert Chen leads the group in an all-Mozart program, the “3rd Violin Concerto’, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”, the “25th Symphony”, and the “2nd Flute Concerto”. 

Monday night January 2 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Bach’s “Sing unto the Lord a New Song” and “Magnificat”. Also on the program, Mendelssohn’s “Magnificat” and “Christus”. Masaaki Suzuki conducts.

Sunday night January 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 we pre-empt the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center” and “Fiesta” to bring you the Vienna Philharmonic’s presentation of its ever-popular New Year’s Day concert from the Golden Hall of Vienna’s Musikverein.

Thursday night December 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. You’ll hear selections from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” and Vivian Fung’s “A Child’s Dream of Toys”. Also on the program Barber’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist James Ehnes.
