The Evening Concert

Wednesday night November 23 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra”.  Karen Gomyo is the soloistin Shostakovich’s “1st Violin Concerto”. William Eddins guest conducts. Also on the program Nino Rota’s “Concerto for Strings” and Respighi’s “The Fountains of Rome”.

Tuesday night November 22 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Former Music Director Daniel Barenboim leads the CSO in Wagner’ “Prelude to Lohengrin”, Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks” and Bruckner’s “8th Symphony”.

Monday night November 21 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  Conrad Tao is the soloist in Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 17”. Also on the program Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” and Respighi’s “Pines of Rome”.

Sunday night November 20 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear mandolinist Avi Avital perform two works by Vivaldi and one by Scarlatti on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear guitar works by Piazzolla on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night November 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”.  Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the group in Tchaikovsky’s “5th Symphony” and a “Symphonic Suite” from Puccini’s “Turandot”. Also on the program Mozart’s “20th Piano Concerto” with soloist Emanuel Ax.

Wednesday night November 16 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra”.  You’ll hear “Siegfried’s Rhine Journey” from the Wagner opera “The Twilight of the Gods” and Humperdinck’s Orchestral Suite from “Hansel and Gretel”. Also on the program Grieg’s “Piano Concerto” with soloist Olga Kern.

Tuesday night November 15 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear works the CSO and second Music Director Frederick Stock introduced to the United States including Elgar’s “Violin Concerto” and Scriabin’s “Prometheus”.

Monday night November 14 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  Igor Stravinsky conducts his “Firebird Suite”, Darius Milhaud conducts his “Suite francaise” and Paul Hindemith conducts his “When Lilacs Last in the Doorway Bloom’d”.

Sunday night November 13 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Bartok’s last “String Quartet” played by the Orion String Quartet on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear Latin American classical music from Portugal on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night November 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”.  Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the group in Mahler’s “1st Symphony” and Gloria Isabel Ramos Trianos’ “amazon’. Also on the program Rachmaninoff’s “3rd Piano Concerto” with soloist Yefim Bronfman.
