The Evening Concert

Tuesday night August 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Martin Helmchen is the soloist in Mozart’s “25th Piano Concerto”. Vladimir Jurowski guest conducts.  Also on the program Shostakovich’s “8th Symphony”.

Monday night August 5 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From the archives you’ll hear Ravel’s “Noble and Sentimental Waltzes” and Carl Nielsen’s “Clarinet Concerto” with soloist Anthony McGill. Former Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts.  

Tonight at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL- FM 90.9 you’ll hear Coleridge-Taylor’s “Quintet for Clarinet and Strings” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by music of Florencio Ascenjo on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Tonight at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.

Wednesday night July 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Composer Thomas Adès conducts music he’s written:“Five Spells from The Tempest” and his “Piano Concerto” featuring soloist Kirill Gerstein. Also on the program Ravel’s “Piano Concerto for the Left Hand”.  

Tuesday night July 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Music Director Riccardo Muti conducts the CSO in Rachmaninoff’s “2nd Symphony” and Wagner’s “Overture to Tannhauser”. Also on the program Jessie Montgomery’s “Transfigure to Grace”.

Monday night July 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Dvorak’s “New World Symphony”, Copland’s “Connotations”, Corigliano’s “Clarinet Concerto” and Carter’s “A Symphony of Three Orchestras”.  Each work on tonight’s broadcast was premiered by the Philharmonic.

Sunday night July 28 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL- FM 90.9 you’ll hear Charles Ives’ “1st String Quartet” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by music of Joly Braga Santos on Fiesta and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.
