Jonathan Mills, a member of the 2016 team from Chicago, died Monday afternoon after being shot outside a store on the city's west side.  A Chicago Sun-Times report indicates Mills was shot multiple times in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was also a standout player for North Lawndale High School and Southern Miss.

Speakers at the opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia included Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez.

Illinois Democrats joined fellow party members in Philadelphia Monday for the Democratic National Convention. But state politics, not the national scene, was the focus of the delegation’s first official day of business.

The committee's task is to improve county law enforcement's interactions with people with mental illness and substance use issues.  Illinois Public Media's Brian Moline spoke Claudia Lennhoff, who serves as the committee's facilitator.
