The governor hopes to get approval from Illinois lawmakers to move money from nonessential government services to help close shortfalls for daycare programs and prisons.
The University of Illinois’s Urbana campus took one step closer to a new medical school on Monday. The campus academic Senate voted to approve Chancellor Phyllis Wise's proposal to create an engineering-focused medical school in partnership with Carle hospital. The vote is the first formal step in the process, and Wise says the plan is gaining momentum.

Gov. Bruce Rauner stepped up his campaign against government employee unions by eliminating so-called "fair share'' dues paid by workers who don't join a union. The Republican said Monday he has signed an executive order erasing what he says is a "critical cog in the corrupt bargain crushing taxpayers.''
The games will be played in late November, along with matchups at the same time in 2017 and 2019.
