Champaign Centennial Student Arrested In Bus Incident

A male student from Champaign’s Centennial High School is in custody for allegedly carrying an unloaded BB gun on a school bus Monday morning.  Champaign Deputy Chief Joe Gallo said the student was showing off the butt of the BB gun, claiming it was a hand grenade, prompting a call to authorities from a parent.

“That got the attention of some of the students, and then we got information that was reported to us," he said.  "That was about 7:15 a.m., so we were able to locate the bus the student was on, that was at Duncan Road and Springfield, and that’s where we had the students exit, and we were able to locate the involved student, and recovered the unloaded BB gun.”

Gallo said the student tried to blend in, getting off the bus with a few others, but was located nearby, and has been charged with disorderly conduct.

He’s in the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center.
