Champaign’s McIntosh Resigning From District 3 Council Seat
Champaign City Council member Vic McIntosh is resigning his District 3 seat at the end of next month after 15 years in office. He and his wife are moving out of the district, to unincorporated Urbana. It’s the council’s second resignation in recent weeks.
McIntosh says he held off on his announcement until a replacement was named to the District 4 seat recently vacated by Marci Dodds. Greg Stock was appointed to that seat last week.
McIntosh says he’s proud to have worked in housing, education and other issues in the Garden Hills neighborhood of his district - started by former council member June Mank, who he says served as a mentor.
“I even go back to when I was first on council, as an at-large member of working with the Garden Hills neighborhood through June Mank," he said. "So there’s been a lot of changes. And we’re going to look in a week or two at maybe trying to repair some of the flooding problems up there too.”
McIntosh was first appointed to the council in 1998, and he retired 11 years later. In 2012, he was appointed to his current seat.
The 69-year old’s term runs through May 2017.
The city council tentatively plans to discuss filling McIntosh’s seat during a study session next week.
