The Great Lakes are warming. Although it might make for better swimming, higher temperatures could have a disastrous effect on Lake Michigan’s game fish, like trout and salmon, which depend on cold water. Fears that the invasive Asian carp could show up in the Great Lakes were renewed, when one of the fish was caught on June 22 near the T.J. O’Brien Lock and Dam in the Little Calumet River, just nine miles from Lake Michigan.

The Trump Administration could be proposing a 97 percent cut in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding when it unveils the federal budget later this month.  The initiative is one of many Environmental Protection Agency programs in jeopardy.
