Union leaders are dealing with concerns from some members that some self-insured health plan payments for state employees have been halted as a result of the state budget impasse.  Four providers are asking members to upfront at the time of an appointment, and will be reimbursed later.

With no state budget in place, the Illinois Department of Human Services has implemented changes to the Child Care Assistance Program that drastically reduce eligibility for the program.

Addressing the state budget crisis, Durbin says leaders have yet to see the political crisis that comes with a government shutdown.  Illinois' senior U.S. senator was at the U of I Tuesday, calling for more funding for scientific and biomedical research.

University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen says university personnel will begin the new academic year at their present salaries, because the uncertainty about the U of I's state appropriation makes is difficult to plan ahead.
