Revisiting President Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday

On this encore edition of the 21st: We revisit our conversation from last February, when Illinois celebrated President Abraham Lincoln’s 208th birthday. We talked to people who have made it their life’s work to present Abraham Lincoln in classrooms, at libraries, on stage, even at birthday parties. Plus, we spoke with food historian Rae Eighmey about her book, “Abraham Lincoln in the Kitchen: A Culinary View of Lincoln’s Life and Times.”

Tweeting Lincoln’s Assassination

Students at the University of Illinois Springfield began "live-tweeting" on April 14 - the date that that Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theater back in 1865. They've continued, tweeting in real time -- 150 years after the fact -- about the pursuit of John Wilkes Booth, and the funeral cortege from Washington, D.C. to Springfield.

Fritz Klein: Bringing Abraham Lincoln To Life

Feburary 12th marks Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and that means Fritz Klein is in high demand. Klein has built his career out of being Abraham Lincoln. The actor stumbled into the role years ago as what was supposed to be one of many roles in his acting career, but the opportunities to portray the 16th president kept coming and soon Klein decided to relocate to springfeild and portray Lincoln full time.
