The Illinois Supreme Court has ruled a voter referendum seeking to change the system Illinois uses to draw political boundaries is unconstitutional, meaning it can't appear on the November ballot. Gov. Bruce Rauner responded Thursday, saying the decision "does nothing to stem the outflow or change people’s views of how the system is rigged and corrupt."

When Illinois voters go to the ballot in November, many will find that they only have one candidate listed on their ballot for some offices. Illinois has a larger percentage of these uncontested races for its state legislature than many other states that are similar in population size. 

A measure to change Illinois’ constitution affecting how legislative districts are drawn is one step closer to making it onto the November ballot.  The Independent Maps campaign has raised more than 580,000 signatures in support of the proposal, twice the number required.
